About

Building on his classical instrumental training at the HMDK Stuttgart, Jonas Urbat keeps looking for new ways to capture the richness of everyday environments and turn it into raw material for sound, composition and expression.

He has composed and performed works for live electronics and orchestra for ensembles including the Robert Schumann Philharmonic Chemnitz, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra.

For his project SoundWERK he composes soundtracks for workshops and factories from their own sounds and turns them into electromechanical instruments. In 2019 he was named a Cultural and Creative Pilot by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, and in 2023 he received the German Business Film Award.

In participatory projects he was musical director of a concert with more than 100 singers for the UFO of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, and created the 2025 community opera with students of the Gesamtschule Bremen-Ost and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.

With his studio van he met musicians all over Europe as InTubaWild. As a co-founder of the Stegreif.Orchester he gained experience in choreography and the performance of classical composition, improvisation, space and movement.
